In this post I will focus on sharing Tweets and information from the Diversity, Equity presentations I attended at the 2023 SGO Annual Meeting. There were a number of important studies presented to better understand equity issues for those diagnosed with a gynecologic cancer.
Two studies focused on Asian / Pacific Islanders
Do we need to separate out non-hispanic Pacific Islanders from Asians?
TY to @sarahleemdmba for bringing #disaggregASIAN to @SGO_org: Asians/#NHPI are not a monolith — not our cancers, comorbidities, or treatments. Building better datasets is a key first step to better pt outcomes! Beautiful work!! @BPothuri pic.twitter.com/bVzEtrwuWm

Food deserts associated with worse survival outcomes.
Dr. Lugo Santiago, Dr. Mihae Song, and team identify food deserts in California are associated with worse survival for pts with ovarian, cervical, and endometrial cancer. Geographic disparities in access to gynecologic oncologists
Kudos Dr Desravines on an outstanding @SGO_org plenary! Despite doubling of GYNONC workforce in last 20 yrs, cancer care geographic disparities for rural & URM populations remain high. It’s high time for solutions to close this gap! #patientspurposeprogress #sgo23AM pic.twitter.com/oVPrzaosJe
