SGO OvaSure (TM) Statement

The Society of Gynecological Oncologists issued a statement on July 2 regarding the test OvaSure(TM) .

"
After reviewing OvaSure’s materials, it is our opinion that additional research is needed
to validate the test’s effectiveness before offering it to women outside of the context of a
research study conducted with appropriate informed consent under the auspices of an
institutional review board."

You can now get Ovasure test online. It can be expensive, about $350+, but you don't need a doctor's visit or order. It seems to be only for early detection of ovarian cancer, not a recurrence.

The test has been removed from the Personalabs website without explanation. I read the FDA want to ask more questions of Labcorp and clarify who will benefit from it.
I will let you know if I can find out more.

Thanks for the update.
I was speaking to a Gyn-Onc from Sloan and they said Ovasure should only be used for high risk women until more studies are completed.

I read this article on CNN.com this morning about a possible marker for detection of ovarian cancer discovered at the University of Pennsylvania. Here is a link to the article - http://www.cnn.com/2008/HEALTH/conditions/09/23/ovarian.cancer.marker/index.html?iref=mpstoryview
Still early days, but hopeful.
